What do people say about Na Pali Kayak?

Iggy was an amazing expert guide on our June 6 outing who made our trip safe, fun and interesting with stories about the history of the Napali Coast while we paddled past incredible scenery and into a couple of stunning caves. Even with the wind at our backs, it's a very strenuous adventure - more than 4 hours to the beach where we stopped for lunch. The biking gloves I brought helped me avoid blisters, and running tights and a UPF hoodie were key.

My husband and I had an amazing trip. The guides (Mitch and Rory) were so knowledgeable and so helpful. We went on the tour group 2nd trip of the season, and the seas were pretty rough, but the views were incredible, and the guides made sure we were well taken care of. We didn't get motion sick, but someone on the trip did, even though they took dramamine. The last 3-4 miles, we had a crazy headwind, so the last stretch took a while (it was such a slog), and it was 7pm by the time we got to Polihale. Mitch ended up getting us all dinner on the way back, to make sure all of us were able to eat dinner before all the restaurants closed. It was a long trip and quite the slog at the end, but the whole experience was incredible. Would highly recommend IF you're ready to handle potentially rough seas, winds, falling in, and a lot of paddling. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

I strongly recommend Napali Kayak , Josh from the beginning helped us prepare all logistics of our camping trip to Milollii. I am also grateful for him convincing my group that we should not rent kayaks and do this journey without a guide. They coordinate all pick up and drop off, make you lunch at milollii and ensure you have a great time. You should be physically fit and comfortable in the ocean , the guides are great at assessing you but you should believe in yourself if you want to do this journey, as there is no turning back. They do an awesome job of keeping you safe and keeping you going strong + offering group breaks by “rafting” up to stabilize the group. Kayaking in May we had some wind and swell and flipped a few times due to our camping gear weight ! Guides kept an eye and helped anyone who struggled to get back on Kayak.Special thank you to Hannah she was very kind, encouraging and on helping us out a quite a few times.Shout out to Mitch as well our guide on the way back ensuring we got to polihale safely !Finally thanks to Josh who runs a great team and makes kayaking an extreme coast possible !

Napali Kayak tours led myself, my wife and son on an amazing trip down the Napali coast with guide Mitch!! It was the tour groups first trip of this season and the sea was rough but we went to unbelievable places highlighted by caves with waterfalls and the washing machine!! Unreal and made me feel so thankful to experience such amazing natural wonder! This trip was for intermediate or advanced paddlers only so know your level. Thank you Mitch and Josh!!

This was the highlight of our trip to Kauai! Our day paddling along the Napali coast will be what we remember when we think back on this trip. Some key points: - The guides were terrific. Friendly and knowledgeable. - It takes effort to paddle that far in the ocean. But it's very, very doable. We had a couple in our group that were in their late 50s and did they fine. - It's a little scary in the waves, but we felt safe the entire time. We had life vests and the guides made sure we were comfortable and knew what to do. - Listen to the advice when booking - cover your legs and wear long sleeves and a hat!

Awesome experience. We've been wanting to do this for years and finally booked it. We are so glad we did; truly the highlight of our trip. Our guide, David, was incredible. My wife was a little timid about paddling closer to shore near Ke'e beach. David assured her all would be fine and to lean on his experience and knowledge of the currents. Thank you David! Never once did we feel unsafe. The views were incredible. Truly the best way to see the Napali coast. Obviously this is not the tour for couch potatoes. It is an active, full day. Plenty of breaks were provided and even opportunities to get off the kayak and swim. Lunch was provided, along with a welcomed hour and a half break to rest, stretch our legs, and play in the surf. Thankfully the best seas were had after lunch. Calm waters, wind at our backs, and a leisurely paddle to our end point. The beach where we ended was great as well -- soft sand, rolling waves, bathrooms and showers. If you're active and want a unique experience this is a must do. Plus, you'll be in a small minority that has circumnavigated the island of Kauai.

Great experience! My friend and I (both 30 year old girls) did many of the activities in Kauai (boat tours, hikes, paddle boards, etc) and both agreed this was by far our favorite. You will not get this experience or the views any other way, nor will it be as rewarding. Highly recommend. We were lucky and saw dolphins, a monk seal and many birds. The paddle was strenuous but David and Mitch were very helpful, nice and knowledgeable. A must do.

We had an amazing day of kayaking, swimming and taking in some of the most spectacular views we’ve ever seen! Our guide, David, truly made our adventure special and unique. His experience as a guide was evident, as he showed us every cave, valley and swim spot along the coast so we didn’t feel like we missed a thing! We are currently trying to recruit friends from home to return to Kauai to share in this experience with us again. The owners are extremely knowledgeable, and they are happy to chat with you ahead of time about preparation. We recommend you follow all of their advice. 😊

A crew of us from Oahu booked kayaks and camped on the Na Pali coast and it was epic. I’ve kayaked and traveled all over the world, since I was a kid and this was probably the top trip.Taking the zodiacs and catamarans is not the way. They treat the coastline like an amusement park, flying in and out of caves like it’s 6 flags. The owner’s Josh and Ivan took extra time to answer all questions and set us up for success. Our driver, Pickle, also went above and beyond to drop us off close to the airport so we didn’t have to make an unnecessary trip back to Hanalei. Cheers to the Na Pali Kayaks Crew!

Incredible way to experience places along the coast that you can only see by boat. Hung out with a pod of spinner dolphins and a variety of seabirds along the way. So glad I finally got to do this. Mahalo to the fabulous guides.

This was a fantastic kayak tour! Ivan was great getting the group ready and set to go on the tour! Our guide David was great! Between telling us all about the island and what we were seeing, keeping us all making progress, and adjusting the experience to the needs and paddling capabilities of the different people on the tour, he absolutely elevated the experience!!The tour was definitely demanding, even with the wind helping us out that day we put a lot of work into it there were a few times I was questioning the decisions I had made in life that brought me to that point! The rewards, however, absolutely made it worth it!! Seeing the entire Na Pali coast so intimately was incredible! Even the lunch break on the beach was a nice opportunity to get refreshed and recovered to finish out the trip to the landing point!

Wow. This your company is very professional. They provide an experience that is well run and magnificent. We got to see areas of the Nāpali coast only visible by kayak. Mitch our guide provided us with history about the coast and the Hawaiian natives. He was extremely informative.

Napali Kayak helped us to experience the outstanding beauty of the Na Pali coast in an Aloha way! It was a challenge due to the length of the tour and Kayaking in the ocean but the good organization, excellent guides Hanna and Ivan made it enjoyable and save. One of a kind experience! The trip was well planned and the communication and personnel involved were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very helpful on a very arduous trip. Mitch added extra value by taking a bunch of pictures and adding some history to the trip. Taking sea sickness pills recommended was a very good call! Overall, a long day but incredibly rewarding!

I joined the Napali Kayak - Day Tour on September 28, 2024, and it was an unforgettable experience! The tour was a bit tiring but so much fun. Jeff and the other coach (apologies, I have trouble remembering names) were incredibly helpful, warm, and friendly, making the whole trip enjoyable. We were treated to magnificent views of the Na Pali Coast, explored hidden caves, and even got to see baby dolphins and a monk seal swimming alongside us. It was truly a magical day. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to experience the beauty of Kauai up close!

One of the highlights of our trip to Kauai. Iggy and Jeffrey were awesome. They offered expectations before heading out, told us some cool stories about the coast, gave us tips along the way, brought a fantastic lunch, and were all around great guys. This is not a casual kayak trip. It's all day in the sun and you should expect to work. My wife and I are fair-skinned and opted to wear long sleeves and pants, which was a good decision (they have sweet long sleeve shirts for sale). Bring sun screen and more water than you think you need. The experience as a whole is completely worth it. 110% recommend. This was our first time on a sea kayak so don't be discouraged if you're in decent shape wanting adventure.

Beautiful experience! We saw dolphins, sea turtles, jellies, lots of cool birds. Pulled up on to pristine beaches. It was super taxing and physically difficult (I’m a 29 year old woman who swims a mile or so every day + distance running but it’s a lot of upper body / hand and wrist strength.) Bring some Tylenol and lots of sunscreen!

Awesome time paddling 17 miles of the Na'pali coast. It was my first ocean kayak experience and it was a blast. Mitch, our guide, was knowledgeable about the history of the region and the local wildlife. And he took great pictures to help us remember the trip. The homemade sandwiches at Miloli'i Beach were a nice bonus, too!

This is a must-do adventure for anyone traveling to Kauai. This day-long kayak adventure is worth every penny. It is a very vigorous day, but the views of the Napali Coast are breathtaking and something you'll only see from a kayak. Our guide, Hannah, was so great and had some many wonderful stories and facts about what we were seeing from the boats. If you want an adventure, don't hesitate to book a trip with Napali Kayak. You won't regret it.

We had such a great day on the water yesterday with Mitch and David (our guides). Incredible scenery, amazing sea cave visits only possible by kayak, nice lunch. Just know that this trip is a very full day (6am-8pm for us), and it's not for the faint-hearted / we had big swells and choppy waters for a big part of the morning. But still a great time and we made friends with the other attendees!

This was such a special experience. From showing up at the shop and being greeted by the owner, to enjoying fresh juicy pineapple on a secluded boat in only beach, and finally finishing with a sporty fun landing on Poli Hale! Every guide we met was fully engaged, flexible to guest needs, accommodating, and knowledgeable! There were multiple safety measures at all times and a very thorough briefings at every challenging aspect. The guides were EXTREMELY patient with us as the natural beauty and intensity were distracting. Despite the difficulty level they all possessed a highly coveted knowledge base that kept everyone safe! even through sea sickness and huli/overturned boats. They pointed out many natural wonders and shared summaries of Hawaiian history. Having shared my positive experience, this is not for the faint of heart or frail. You must consider if you, yourself are capable enough to safely paddle 17 miles on the open and wild ocean. Also head the shops advice to wear long shirt, pants, and reef safe sunscreen! You will burn!

Brooks and Mitch were excellent guides! They ordered up rainbows, pods of spinner dolphins, cruising swells to make the paddling easy. They gave us great directions for launching and paddling in. This is the way to see the NaPali Coast! It was beautiful, hard, rewarding, fun, and a life treasure. We went into caves and hidden nooks, wove through “recently” fallen cliff rocks, relaxed on beach for lunch, and enjoyed the company of people who do hard things. Highly recommend NaPali Kayak - professional in how they handled our changing reservation, excellent guides (Annie - you are a joy and pro! Hannah - it was a pleasure kayaking with you ♥️🤜🏼♥️. Sammy - thanks for the laughter!), and a smoothly run expedition! Best day on Kauai!

Epic!! The guides were phenomenal and set my mind at ease. I didn’t quite know what I was getting myself into though. It’s a 14-15 hour day. Starting at 6am, and we paddled for 6-7 hours total, with a lunch / nap beach break at mile 12 of 17 miles of paddling. We happened to have favorable winds and tides, but if we hadn’t I wouldn’t have been able to do the tour. Make sure you’re partnered with someone who is willing to work out their arms and core and can PULL the water with you, and has stamina. After the tour you have a 2.5 hr drive home with 30 min on a very bumpy road

An absolutely awesome experience and could not ask for anything else from the guides. This tour is a fantastic way to see the coast. We were lucky enough to see a monk seal, turtles and dolphins up close. It takes a little bit of work but if you are in decent shape you can do it. The guides (Izzy, Aja, and Pickle) went above and beyond. They provided interesting commentary, the lunch was fresh and delicious, and they made sure we had everything else we needed (from sunblock to water). I was skeptical going into it but I am so glad I took the leap of faith. You should too!

Amazing amazing kayak tour with a great guide company! We were the first boat tour out on the water this year and our guides Annie, Mitch and Mason made sure we had the best time! Super engaging. We felt safe and cared for the entire time, even though it was a windy day — rain, sun, rainbows, wind — we had it all. Long but super fun day of paddling in one of the most gorgeous places on earth. We got to go in a cave, the guides explained Hawaiian history and animal facts to us. Annie risked her phone and took some wonderful photos of us. Definitely worth doing!

We rented a tandem kayak to do a self-supported Na Pali camping trip, and Ivan and Josh were great! They taught me a few things I didn't know, helped me load the kayak onto our truck, and to top it off Ivan found us at Miloli'i beach the next day when his tour came through and he gave us an ice cold pineapple! We've also done their guided trips in the past and can't recommend them enough.

The only complaint I have about this trip is that I missed my window on my trip to do it again. This was truly the trip of a lifetime and I will come back to Kauai just to paddle it again. First, the guides. The guides were amazing - informative, helpful, encouraging, and real. They made the whole trip! Sadie was so great. She was knowledgeable about Hawaii and I loved the info about each location, but best of all, she sand us Hawaiian songs and played the flute in the sea caves - want an incredible experience! I hope she does that for everyone, on every trip, forever, moving forward. Mitch, our other guide, was a great, supportive and educational guide who made me feel less concerned about how hard the paddle was and was really, really, real. Appreciated him so much! Now, the trip. The trip itself was epic. Truly, Napali and the beaches there may have ruined beaches for me for the rest of my life. The caves, the scenery, the water - nothing like it. But, this paddle is HARD. Make no mistake, there were times I legitimately thought I could not finish it, and we paddled on a calmer day. But I still wanted to do it again on the same trip, because it was that good. Everyone should do this kayak trip. Trip of a lifetime, for real. Do yourself a favor and take this trip.

I can’t say enough great things about this company and this experience. I just finished my 4th trip down Napali in a kayak with them, and it gets better every time. My 14 year old daughter did it for the first time and it was the highlight of our trip to Kauai. Definitely a challenge, but so worth all of the effort. Annie was our guide and she absolutely rocks. She shares a wealth of knowledge about the coast, the sea life, the history, and the entire island community. Josh, one of the owners, joined us on our trip and he was amazing. The entire day runs smoothly and safely. This is a must do activity. - Eric

The guides took very good care of the group. They were extremely responsible. The ocean was very interesting with the wind helping us towards our goal. The turquoise waters and fun waves exceeded my expectations in a positive way! For me the ocean was more amazing than the scenery. Going to the caves was impressive and will be part of my memories. I only wished I could have received more facts about the place and history in the one hour trip in the van to and from beach. It’s a long day of kayaking but not strenuous if you are active and have the help of the wind. You really need to feel comfortable kayaking in the ocean. It’s a great adventure!

My partner and I did the full-day 17 mile kayak on the Napali coast in early September and it was FANTASTIC! I would highly recommend this experience for the adventure seeking individual that wants to see this gorgeous historic coast line in Kauai in an up-close and unique way. The guide and company is up beat well informed and with you every step of the way. They have stories and context for difference parts of the coast line and really enrich the views. lunch, snacks and drinks are all well prepared and plentiful. They all seem to take genuine joy in the day along side you!Few things to note about the actual in-boat experience:It is very physically demanding! My partner and I are in decent physical shape - I run and rockclimb, he cycles daily we both love hiking. The paddling was REAL in the waves, we had (what the guide described as) ideal conditions and there are chances to rest but this isn't a restful experience definitely a physical and sometimes mental push - which we didn't mind but keep it in mind!No experience is necessary - neither of us had ever kayaked on open ocean only lakes and rivers and we managed to figure out the rhythm. The kayaks have a rudder which helps significantly with steering on the choppy waters. Bring a water bottle you can clip to the boat - I brought a water bladder which was clumsy in the boat. I wish I had a nalgene type which could have been clipped to a carabiner that was available in the boat. Protect your phone - this may seem obvious but I don't remember reading it in their pre-ride info. water safe case, bag etc... it's wet out there and you will end up in the water either by choice or by accident so take precaution!Take the sea-sickness meds - just do it! I did and I was fine... my partner was being stubborn and did not and well... he regretted that! It doesn't ruin the day but there's nothing to do about it after the fact so just take it early and don't get sick.Overall 10/10 would do again - can't wait to come back!

Props to Ivan, Ahja(sp?), Mitch, and Matty. Was a little nervous going in, but we paddled the coast safely and had plenty of time to take it in and take a dip. Why spend your money on a big boat or copter zipping by when you can immerse yourself in the water and interact with nature. Thanks for a great time, highly recommend if you're on the fence (you can do it)!

Long, tiring, but well worth it, trip. Be prepared to paddle, paddle, paddle, then paddle some more. You don't need to be an expert kayaker, but you do need to be in shape. If you want to hear the Guides insights and stories, you need to stick very close to them. Between the surf and the constant din of helicopters overhead, you cannot hear them if you are more than 10' to 15' away. Fortunately, there are real bathrooms at the launch, at the Liloli Beach lunch site and the take out. Don't expect a gourmet lunch. But by then, any food will do. I would suggest bringing your own snacks. Also, Miloli is not a great place for snorkeling or swimming. Eat, rest, walk the beach. The take-out is an experience, all about timing and trusting the Guides to help you. Our Guides Jeffrey and Mitch were great!! Extra Hint: Bring some beers, plus some to share, for the take out.

Aside from it being quite difficult (even for athletes), it’s an awesome experience. The caves that you get to enter were some of the best moments and an incredibly unique feel. The views are stunning but I do think you end up focusing on pushing through it versus relaxing and soaking it all in. The guides were very knowledgeable, helpful and positive. You don’t end up having lunch for a very long time so pack a few extra snacks in your life jacket pocket (not your dry bag). Overall, a very fulfilling and neat trip!

Napali Kayak is THE place to go for Na Pali Coast kayaking tours! Seriously: not only do Ivan and Josh care about making your kayak adventure the best experience possible, but they really want to tailor it as much to your needs as plausible (difficult, at best, for a family of four from Chicago!). It's also clear that they really care about Kaua'i, and honoring the beautiful paradise that the Garden Island is. Napoli Kayak has been in business for almost 20 years; through the thick and the thin - they're reliable, responsive and responsible. Napali Kayak should be your first choice for kayaking tours / rental in Kaua'i!

Family of four (59, 57, 22, 17) set off on an adventure not really knowing what we were in for. Almost right away, we both flipped in our kayaks. Using the skills they taught us (and a boost) we were all on our way again! Pleased to say that was our only flip of the day! After that we got the hang of it. The guides were great and made a lovely lunch at the break time. “We can do hard things!” was our mantra for the day. The view are spectacular, of course. Going in caves and under the waterfall was fun. Take your sea sickness meds even if you think you don’t need them. Riding up and down the swells all day can get to you! Rowdy seas, sun, dolphins, a great group, and 17 miles of pristine shoreline made for a great adventure in Kauai. We had great interactions with Napali Kayak from start to finish, from making our reservations and figuring out a way to get dropped at the Turo lot on the way home to paddling the day with Annie and Jeffrey. My husband and I are former river guides and have lots of whitewater experience and were impressed with Annie’s leadership and judgment calls. We appreciated paddling with a strong group all day. And were grateful for the “boat catcher” at the take-out! Wear good sun coverage, think about sun gloves/paddling gloves, and a few good snacks that will fit in your life jacket. We are grateful this was part of our Kauai experience.

Napali Kayak Tours fostered an amazing trip for all involved, I can’t give a big enough thanks to Sadie and Brian for being such amazing guides.

An awesome adventure! Napali Kayaking did an amazing job - our guide Brian was fantastic. Another kayaking tour canceled on us because the group wasn't big enough to go out, but Napali Kayak Tours fit us onto their schedule and helped us make this one-in-a-lifetime experience happen! We were so appreciative. We are two fit people in our 20s who had kayaked in lakes and rivers before. We had not kayaked in the ocean. We went out together in a two person kayak. While it was difficult, it really was an amazing experience! Brian did everything he could to help us get accustom to the equipment and water, as well as looking out for our safety. (He also took some amazing pictures of us on the water that he shared after the tour! Super cool!) I would definitely suggest preparing for this kayak. Some of the things we did ... - scopolamine patches (lifesaver, we put on the night before, we were the only ones not sea sick) - gloves - long sleeved clothing, hat, and sun protection - sunglasses with a strap - energy snacks that fit in pockets (energy gels, beans, bars, Gatorade) - we brought 2L of water per person (at least) - prepare for everything on your person to get wet. I spoke to Josh on the phone before hand, and I appreciated his upfront advice and honesty about the tour. We were originally planning to do the 10mile trip, but I'm glad we chose the 17mile instead. Amazing experience and THE highlight of our trip to Kauai. Our friends and family loved hearing about our kayaking adventure. Big thank you to Napali Kayak Tours!

What an incredible experience Napali Kayak provides! I booked a 2 night overnight trip with help from the Napali team for myself and 2 friends. We set everything up with Josh beforehand, and I felt completely taken care of and like a friend more than a customer. Annie and the other guides are all super light-hearted, helpful, friendly, and keep safety as the top priority while having fun. I could not recommend this team any more and we cannot wait to come back and do it again. Mahalo, team! Y'all are the best!

It's been two weeks since I went on this kayak trip with my dad. I can honestly say that I grin ear to ear every time I think of it, which is every single day. It was a bucket list item that I've dreamt of for the past decade, and was uncertain if I'd be able to physically withstand the long trip due to a bum shoulder. I knew I'd never forgive myself for not trying, and fortunately have a father who loves kayaking as much as I do. When our guides, Annie and Iggy asked for volunteers to ride with him, he and I obliged. I felt guilty, knowing we'd have an easier journey than those paddling with their partner. Annie paddled with my dad, taking pictures of everyone and regaling us with her stories and her passion for the islands and their people. I rode with Iggy, who was equally as amazing. I mentioned that I loved wave surfing in whitewater and the man went into beast mode paddling as hard as he could to help us catch some good waves! He also had a hundred stories about the islands, his travels, and was truly a fountain of knowledge. Annie promised us, "rainbows and mermaids and dolphins". Sure enough, we started our day with multiple rainbows and a pod of dolphins. We ended the day with more dolphins! My only moment of disappointment in this trip was seeing the beach of Polihale- I would've loved to stay out even longer. The pictures you'll see of the Na Pali coast don't do it justice, and it truly is a "gift" to experience the sight. I was honestly prepared to suffer physically from this 17 mile kayak trip, but we had perfect conditions and riding with a guide probably prevented a lot of of it. Honestly, I was barely sore the next day and completely fine after that. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I could be paddling along this coast every day. To the owners and employees of NaPali Kayak Tours -and especially to Annie and Iggy- thank you all so much for one of the best experiences of my life!

Annie and Iggy were such awesome guides to this beautiful place! You can count on them to stay creative, positive and high-energy even when the ocean throws its curveballs, and leave you with an unforgettable adventure.

Awesome paddle! Annie and Mason were great guides, and kept a good eye out and place for a good mix of people with varied skill levels. They definitely made the entire 17 miles a fun paddle! Highly recommend this.

Paddled 17 miles along the Na Pali coast with the man, Brian! The trip was amazing from start to finish. The safety briefings and instructions were extremely thorough. The shuttle van was clean, and the ride was quick. The 17-mile paddle itself was physically tough but not overly-taxing; considering that the entire ride you have a front-seat view of the Na pali coast with crystal-clear, warm water and beautiful Kauai weather. Our tour guide Brian went above and beyond. He shared his wealth of knowledge of Hawaiian history, geography, culture, and everything about the island. He was mindful of the groups' needs, stopping often for photo opportunities and water/snack breaks. DON'T BE SCARED BY THE DISTANCE, YOU CAN DO IT.

17 Miles along the Napali coast was an adventure of a lifetime!!! This was no easy paddle, prepare to work hard and be as tired as you ever have! But it is so worth it!! Such a beautiful and cool experience I'd do it again any day!! Worth every penny to paddle yourself into sea caves and along a spectacular coast line! Bring lots of snacks that can be accessible to you while kayaking. Eat a good hearty breakfast and bring lots of water!! Reef safe sunscreen is a MUST!! I also recommend long sleeve swim shirts and hats!! You will get ALOT of sun!! Bring your own dry bag if you can, they have them if not, and bring 2 towels- one for after and one for lunch time. I put my towel in the after bag, but I wish I had one while on the tour for lunch time break to lay out and take a nap on.

Our guides are passionate about sharing the beauty and history of Na Pali and are skilled at navigating various ocean conditions while ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Their expertise provides an invaluable layer of safety and enriches your overall experience with fascinating insights.

What safety precautions does Na Pali Kayak take?

Na Pali Kayak prioritizes participant safety above all else. We employ a comprehensive set of safety precautions, including mandatory use of personal flotation devices (PFDs) for all participants. Our guides are trained in wilderness first aid and CPR, carry appropriate safety equipment (e.g., marine radios, first-aid kits), and constantly monitor weather and ocean conditions. We conduct thorough pre-trip briefings on paddling techniques, safety protocols, and emergency procedures. Our kayaks are regularly inspected and maintained to the highest standards to ensure reliability. Your well-being is our chief concern.

What kind of weather can I expect on a Na Pali Kayak tour?

Weather on the Na Pali Coast can be variable. Generally, during the summer months (May-September), conditions tend to be calmer and sunnier, making it the ideal season for kayaking. Winter months (October-April) often bring larger swells, rain, and stronger winds, which can lead to tour cancellations for safety reasons. Temperatures are typically warm year-round, but ocean temperatures can vary. Na Pali Kayak guides continuously monitor marine forecasts, and we will inform you of any expected changes or potential impacts on your tour. Be prepared for sun, occasional rain, and ocean spray.

What is the best time of year to take a Na Pali Kayak tour?

The best time of year to take a Na Pali Kayak tour is typically during the summer months, from May through September. During this period, the ocean conditions along the Na Pali Coast are generally calmer, with less wind and smaller swells, which makes for a more enjoyable and accessible kayaking experience. This season also offers more consistent sunny weather. While tours can be offered outside these months, they are more susceptible to cancellations due to rougher ocean conditions. Booking during summer provides the highest likelihood of a smooth and spectacular paddle.

What essential items should I bring on a Na Pali Kayak tour?

When embarking on a Na Pali Kayak tour, essential items include reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat with a chin strap, sunglasses with a retainer, and plenty of water in a reusable bottle. You'll also want to bring a towel, a change of clothes for after the tour, and any necessary personal medications. A waterproof camera or a phone in a waterproof case is highly recommended for capturing the stunning scenery. Na Pali Kayak provides dry bags for small personal items, but pack light and only bring what you truly need for the day.

Can I bring my camera on a Na Pali Kayak tour?

Yes, you are absolutely encouraged to bring your camera on a Na Pali Kayak tour to capture the breathtaking beauty of the coast! However, it is crucial that your camera is waterproof or housed in a reliable waterproof case. The ocean environment can be unforgiving, and water spray or accidental capsizing can damage non-waterproof electronics. We recommend using a tether or float strap for your camera to prevent it from sinking if dropped. GoPro cameras are popular choices. Na Pali Kayak provides dry bags for smaller items, but ultimate responsibility for your gear lies with you.

Is Na Pali Kayak accessible for disabled travelers?

Due to the inherent nature of kayaking and the challenging marine environment of the Na Pali Coast, direct kayak tours with Na Pali Kayak present significant accessibility challenges for many disabled travelers. Our tours often require participants to be able to get in and out of a kayak unassisted, paddle for extended periods, and navigate potentially uneven terrain. While we strive to be as inclusive as possible, individuals with mobility impairments or certain disabilities may find these activities difficult. We encourage you to contact us directly to discuss specific needs and limitations, and we will do our best to advise on suitability.

What is Na Pali Kayak's pet policy?

For safety and logistical reasons, Na Pali Kayak unfortunately cannot allow pets on our guided tours, including the Napali Day Trip – Hā’ena, Napali Day Trip – Polihale, or Na Pali Coast Camping trips. The marine environment, potential wildlife encounters, confined spaces in kayaks, and the focus on human safety and enjoyment make it unsuitable for pets. Service animals are an exception, subject to specific regulations and advance notification. Please contact us directly well in advance of booking to discuss the requirements for service animals.

Does Na Pali Kayak have policies for solo travelers?

Yes, Na Pali Kayak welcomes solo travelers on all our tours. Solo travelers can easily join our group tours, offering an excellent opportunity to meet like-minded adventurers. If you are traveling solo, you will typically be paired with another solo traveler or placed in a double kayak with a guide or another participant, depending on kayak availability and safety considerations. There are no additional fees imposed specifically for solo travelers joining a standard group tour. For those seeking solitude, our Private Tour in Na Pali can be an ideal, though higher-priced, option.

Are children allowed on Na Pali Kayak tours?

Na Pali Kayak welcomes families and children on our tours, but there are age and physical requirements that must be met for safety reasons. Typically, children must be at least a certain age (e.g., 10-13 years old, depending on the tour's rigor) and be able to paddle effectively for extended periods. They must also fit correctly into our smallest life vests. The Na Pali Coast Camping trip, due to its demanding nature, usually has a higher minimum age requirement. Please check the specific tour description for exact age restrictions or contact us directly to discuss suitability for your children.

Can I combine multiple Na Pali Kayak tours?

While Na Pali Kayak's tours are generally designed as standalone experiences, combining them can create an extended adventure! For example, you might consider booking the Napali Day Trip – Hā’ena for one day and follow it up with the Na Pali Coast Camping trip on subsequent days if logistics allow. Our tours typically cover distinct stretches or offer different experiences. If you're interested in booking multiple tours, please contact our reservations team. They can help you plan an itinerary that maximizes your experience and advise on any potential logistical advantages or discounts for multiple bookings.

Does Na Pali Kayak recommend travel insurance?

Yes, Na Pali Kayak strongly recommends that all participants consider purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. While we take every precaution for your safety and adhere to our cancellation policies, unforeseen circumstances can arise, such as personal injury, illness, travel delays, or last-minute tour cancellations due to extreme weather. Travel insurance can provide coverage for medical emergencies, trip interruptions, and non-refundable expenses, offering peace of mind. Please review various insurance options to find a policy that best suits your individual needs and the nature of your Na Pali adventure.

What are Na Pali Kayak's emergency procedures during a tour?

Na Pali Kayak has robust emergency procedures in place to ensure participant safety. All our guides are trained in wilderness first aid and CPR and carry essential emergency equipment, including marine radios for communication. In the event of an emergency (e.g., injury, severe weather change, capsizing), guides are equipped to provide immediate assistance, assess the situation, and communicate with our base operations for further support or evacuation if necessary. Participants will receive a detailed safety briefing before the tour, outlining basic emergency protocols and how to follow guide instructions. Your safety is our paramount concern.

Are there restrooms available during Na Pali Kayak day trips?

Access to traditional restrooms is extremely limited, if not entirely absent, during Na Pali Kayak day trips along the remote Na Pali Coast. Participants are advised to use facilities at the meeting or launch points before departure. During the tour, any 'restroom' stops would typically involve using discreet areas on secluded beaches, following strict Leave No Trace principles. Our guides will brief you on appropriate protocols for wilderness sanitation. It's important to manage your hydration and expectations in this pristine natural environment, as formal facilities are not available once on the water.

What kind of kayaks does Na Pali Kayak use?

Na Pali Kayak primarily utilizes stable and comfortable sit-on-top kayaks for our tours. These kayaks are ideal for ocean paddling due to their ease of entry and exit, stability, and self-bailing design. They are also suitable for various skill levels, from beginners to experienced paddlers. For daily trips, we use both tandem (two-person) and single kayaks. You can expect high-quality, well-maintained equipment that is regularly inspected for safety and performance, ensuring reliable kayaks for your Na Pali adventure.

Can I bring my own kayak on a Na Pali Kayak tour?

No, for safety, logistical, and liability reasons, Na Pali Kayak does not permit participants to bring their own kayaks on our guided tours. We provide all necessary equipment, including high-quality, stable kayaks that are specifically suited for the challenging conditions of the Na Pali Coast. Using our standardized equipment ensures consistency in performance, allows our guides to maintain group cohesion, and guarantees that all vessels meet our strict safety standards. Your tour cost covers the use of our specialized kayaks.

Is prior kayaking experience required for Na Pali Kayak tours?

For most of Na Pali Kayak's day trips, such as the Napali Day Trip – Hā’ena, prior kayaking experience is not strictly required, but a basic level of fitness and comfort in the water is essential. Our experienced guides provide a thorough paddling instruction and safety briefing before departure. However, the Na Pali Coast Camping trip and some longer day trips are more physically demanding and may benefit from some previous paddling experience. If you are unsure, please contact us to discuss your experience level and we can recommend the most suitable tour.

What is the age limit for seniors on Na Pali Kayak tours?

There is no strict upper age limit for seniors on Na Pali Kayak tours, as long as participants meet the physical fitness requirements. The ability to paddle for several hours, get in and out of a kayak unassisted, and manage various ocean conditions is more important than chronological age. We recommend that all participants, especially seniors, consult their doctor beforehand. Please honestly assess your physical capabilities against the tour descriptions. For a more relaxed experience, our private tours can offer a customized pace.

Are there weight restrictions for Na Pali Kayak kayaks?

Yes, for safety and equipment performance, there are weight restrictions for participants on Na Pali Kayak tours. These restrictions vary slightly depending on the specific kayak model used and whether it's a single or tandem kayak. Generally, a single kayak has a weight limit of approximately 250-300 lbs, and tandem kayaks have a combined weight limit of around 450-500 lbs. It is important to disclose accurate weight information when booking to ensure we can accommodate you safely and comfortably. Please contact us if you have any concerns regarding weight limits.

Can I bring alcoholic beverages on a Na Pali Kayak tour?

No, bringing alcoholic beverages on Na Pali Kayak tours is strictly prohibited. For the safety of all participants and in adherence to our company policy, we maintain an alcohol-free environment during all our excursions. Kayaking requires focus, coordination, and the ability to respond quickly to conditions, which can be impaired by alcohol consumption. We prioritize a safe, enjoyable, and responsible experience on the water for everyone. Participants found with alcohol will not be permitted to join the tour and no refund will be provided.

What kind of wildlife can I expect to see on a Na Pali Kayak tour?

During a Na Pali Kayak tour, you can expect to encounter an incredible array of marine life and seabirds, creating truly memorable experiences. Common sightings include spinner dolphins playing in the waves, green sea turtles gracefully swimming by, and various colorful reef fish visible in clear waters. During the winter months (December to May), humpback whales may be seen migrating. On land, you might spot native seabirds nesting in the cliffs. Our guides are experts at locating and identifying wildlife, ensuring respectful viewing distances, and enhancing your appreciation for the local ecosystem.

How long is the Napali Day Trip – Hā’ena tour?

The Napali Day Trip – Hā’ena tour with Na Pali Kayak is a full-day adventure, encompassing a substantial 17-mile paddle. The total duration of the experience, including pre-trip briefing, paddling, stops for lunch and rest, and post-trip logistics, is typically around 6 to 8 hours. The exact duration can vary slightly depending on ocean conditions, group pace, and the amount of time spent exploring. This extensive journey allows for a comprehensive exploration of the stunning Hā’ena to Polihale stretch of the Na Pali Coast, offering ample time to soak in the views.

What's the difference between the Hā’ena and Polihale day trips?

The primary difference between the Napali Day Trip – Hā’ena and the Napali Day Trip – Polihale with Na Pali Kayak lies in their starting and ending points, and thus the direction and specific sections of the coast explored. The Hā’ena trip typically runs from Hā’ena to Polihale (east to west), covering 17 miles. The Polihale trip runs from Polihale to Mi (west to east). Both offer breathtaking views, but the direction can influence prevailing winds and swells. Your guide will assess which route provides the best and safest conditions for the day, ensuring an optimal experience of the Na Pali Coast.

Na Pali Kayak strives for transparency in all our pricing, and we do not have any hidden fees. Tips for guides are appreciated but entirely optional.

What happens if I get seasick on a Na Pali Kayak tour?

While kayaking minimizes seasickness for many compared to larger boats, it can still occur. If you feel seasick on a Na Pali Kayak tour, please immediately inform your guide. Our guides are trained to assist and will do their best to help you feel more comfortable. They can often provide tips, adjust your paddling position, or find a calm spot. We strongly recommend that individuals prone to motion sickness take preventative measures *before* the tour, such as anti-nausea medication (e.g., Dramamine) as directed by a doctor. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds for seasickness.

Can I bring my own snacks or drinks on a Na Pali Kayak tour?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own personal snacks and non-alcoholic drinks on a Na Pali Kayak tour, in addition to what we may provide. We recommend bringing extra water in a reusable bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. Energy bars, fruit, or small, easily packable snacks are great options. Please ensure all items are in sealable, waterproof containers to protect them and prevent any litter. We ask that you adhere to our Leave No Trace principles and pack out everything you pack in, helping us preserve the pristine beauty of the Na Pali Coast.

What if I can't swim? Can I still join a Na Pali Kayak tour?

While all participants are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD) at all times during a Na Pali Kayak tour, a basic level of swimming proficiency is strongly recommended, especially for the multi-day Na Pali Coast Camping trip and longer day paddles. In the unlikely event of capsizing, being able to swim comfortably to re-enter your kayak or reach assistance is crucial. If you are a non-swimmer or not confident in the water, please inform us during booking to discuss the suitability of the tour for your specific situation. Safety is our main priority.

Are there opportunities for snorkeling during Na Pali Kayak tours?

Certain Na Pali Kayak tours, particularly the longer day trips like the Napali Day Trip – Hā’ena, may offer opportunities for snorkeling if ocean conditions are favorable and time permits. The Na Pali Coast boasts incredibly clear waters and vibrant marine life, making it an excellent spot for snorkeling. However, snorkeling stops are always at the discretion of the guide, based on safety considerations, ocean currents, and group pace. We recommend checking the specific tour description on our website or inquiring directly about snorkeling options. You would typically need to bring your own snorkel gear if you wish to participate.

How far in advance should I book the Na Pali Coast Camping trip?

Due to its unique and highly sought-after nature, the Na Pali Coast Camping trip with Na Pali Kayak should be booked as far in advance as possible. We recommend booking at least 6-12 months ahead, especially if you have specific dates or are traveling during peak season (May-September). Permits for camping along the Na Pali Coast are limited and highly competitive. Early booking ensures you secure both your spot on our guided trip and the necessary camping permits. It's an adventure that requires significant planning!

Na Pali Kayak's Camping Equipment Rental package provides essential, high-quality gear for your multi-day Na Pali Coast Camping adventure. This typically includes a sturdy, comfortable tent, a warm sleeping bag, a sleeping pad for insulation and comfort, and basic cooking equipment (e.g., camp stove, pot, utensils). In cases of extreme blistering or signs of heatstroke, immediate medical attention will be sought, potentially requiring an early evacuation from the tour for the affected individual.
